| Brief synopsis of activity | A website aimed at describing the chemistry behind commonly used personal care products, and the steps that can be taken to improve their sustainability through the application of green chemistry. |
| Detailed description | The Green Chemistry Network in collaboration with Boots The Chemists are currently working on a new outreach activity based on the chemistry behind commonly used personal care products, and the steps that can be taken to improve their sustainability over the lifecycle. As part of a pilot phase of work an interactive exercise on the lifecycle of soap was created, which can be viewed at http://www.greenconsumerproducts.co.uk. This was trialled during National Science Week at a series of workshops at the annual ‘Discovery Days’ exhibition, attended by approx. 2000 school children and members of the public in York. The GCN intend to expand the scope of this website to include further products such as shampoo, toothpaste, moisturizer etc. The GCN and Boots have recently been awarded funding through the EPSRC’s Partnerships for Public Engagement Scheme to develop an interactive display on this subject to be hosted at two science centers in the UK. |

3. Future Collaborations
| Areas of interest | The GCN is interested in working in collaborative education projects for all age groups and the general public. This can include delivery as well as preparation of written and web-based material. The GCN is particularly interested in projects that involve studies on the use of renewable resources and on the design of green products. |
