| Background | The Erasmus Mundus scheme is the EU co-operation and mobility programme in the field of higher education. The main component of this scheme is to support the development of high-quality integrated study programmes at Masters level. Other elements of the scheme include the provision of EU-funded scholarships for third-country nationals participating in these Masters Courses, as well as scholarships for EU nationals studying in third countries. |
| Who can apply? | European higher education institutions from the 27 European Union Member States and the EEA/EFTA States. |
| What funding is available? | The overall budget for the programme amounts to € 230 million over a five-year period (2004-2008). The estimated budget for 2008 is € 94 million. |
| How to apply? | A consortium involving a minimum of three universities in at least three different European countries can apply. Students registered on the courses have to study in at least two of the three universities and obtain a recognised double or joint degree upon graduation. Calls for proposals are usually made around February each year, which will provide detailed instructions on how to reply. |
