Details of funding opportunity

Scheme Framework 7
Organisation European Commission
Background

The main focus of Framework 7 is research. However FP7 also incorporates an Education and Training Programme. The Marie Curie programme offers research training opportunities at postgraduate and postdoctoral level. These include individual fellowships (postdoctoral) and networks (“Initial Training Networks”) focussing on postgraduate level. There is scope here for “Transfer of Knowledge” activities, which could include sustainable chemistry education.

In addition to this, “public understanding” activities related to sustainable chemistry education could be included as part of a wider research project. The relevant thematic areas of FP7 are Energy (Theme 5), Environment (Theme 6) and Transport (Theme 7). Within these programmes there may also be scope for a Coordinated Action or a Support Action with a focus on dissemination activities in sustainable chemistry education, but there would also need to be a research aspect.

Science Education is also supported in the Science in Society programme (part of the ‘Capacities’ specific programme). For example the following themes within this programme are of potential relevance:
Better understanding of the place of science and technology in society
The role and image of scientists
Research aimed at enhancing science communication in its methods and its products.

Who can apply?

Any company, university, research centre, organisation or individual, legally established in any country, may participate in a collaborative project (known as an indirect action) provided that the minimum conditions laid down in the Rules for Participation in FP7 have been met, including any additional conditions laid down by specific programmes or individual work programmes. See http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/who_en.html#provisions for further details.
